This is fascinating - from my point of view having just visited the mine and having visited the underground workings I have to say that I'm not surprised of this recent news. In order for such a large scale observation and investigation programme to be instigated there had to be more than a half chance they would find something. There's clearly plenty of extractable material down there...whether you'll get the amount of workers required is a different matter. I have a feeling Cornwall will jump at it......

New Documentary About Tin Mining in Cornwall - Can You Help?

Hello again,

Sorry posts are beginning to get a little sparse...I promise I'll keep them up to date a lot more regularly soon. The main reason for my lack of posts here recently is that I'm travelling between London and Cornwall a fair bit researching for a documentary I am planning to do on Cornish Tin Mining. I am looking at Geevor mine in particular, but want to compare this to South Crofty and the difference between heritage, historical mining in Cornwall and current, real, working mining. It is quite an exciting project I'm looking forward to completing...however if anyone has any suggestions or are an ex-miner for example and want to contrinute...please do get in touch! I'm looking for ex-miners and people who were/are involved in the industry to contribue so the more the better!

Cornwall Parking Charges to Rise

It has been announced by the council in Cornwall that yet again, parking charges will rise 5% from April this year. For motorists who park for more that sixty minutes, the hike will come as another shock to people who are already struggling to meet the demands of running a car. It is fair enough to expect a standard charge across all Cornwall Council car parks, claims Andrew Wallis who is the Cornwall's parking policy advisor. Under One Cornwall, the charges will be farier and 'fit for purpose,' with the costs remaning as low as possible

This is something which I've actually only just stumbled upon. It raises issues that I think are local to all of us living in Cornwall, and although it might seem far fetched at the moment a lot of what is discussed is very valid on it's own. Cornwall does have a very diverse and individual culture; regardless of whether you support this or not I suppose the issue now is how long will it be before we see somewhere rural be centre of culture. My guess is a very long time.

The Frustration of Cool Winter Weather....

The only problem I have with the weather being the way it is at the moment is the cruel irony of how beautiful it is yet how inaccesable the world seems.

I can hardly drive 100 yards down my road without careering into a hedge or a similarly misplaced granite boulder....yet there is so much out there I want to see! This is the time I miss being able to walk to places of interest...okay Hayle Marks and Spencer is only half a mile away; but granny watching hardly ranks high on the list. I'd love to walk, but carrying camera equipment...not likely...and on a bike I suffer similar fate to in a car. It is truly frustrating!

So, for those of you who have access to some of the most beautiful parts of the world in this beautiful weather we are having; enjoy it!....having said that though, I'll probably have a chance next year; this winter weather looks like it's going to install itself every year!

A Happy New Year in Cornwall!

Happy New Year!

I hope that 2010 bring you everything you want and deserve. I will be looking forward to much development in Cornwall in 2010; hopefully counteracting a rather disconcerting 2009 for the region. The Newquay airport scandal was something that really caught my attention - and there are many other such incidents which dented the local infrastructure and the region's reputation.

Having said that, there were plenty of occasions when the region was presented in a positive light to the 'outside world.' It is interesting to notice that there were many television programmes, for example, which captured the spirit of Cornwall and in many ways its rugged beauty which continues to attract people the world over. Tourism did well in Cornwall in 2009; boutique hotels such as St. Moritz in Trebetherick and St. Michael in Falmouth highlighting the appearance of a stylish and sophisticated Cornwall which has struggled in previous years. To my mind, this can only be a good thing.

So, I wish everyone a prosperous 2010 and I wish a prosperous time for Cornwall as a whole!
